cute things vs. shallow guilt

Tuesday:

Hmm, was going to put this up on my etsy, but I think I'll hang on to it for a while. I enjoy being confused with a picnic blanket.

Dress - thrifted
Shoes - thrifted Deegow Boutique

Wednesday:

An old lady at Kowalski's asked me where I got these shorts and then told me I looked very "Hollywood"... erm, what can I say? I like to look glamorous while buying nectarines? Personally it makes me feel like a child. on a farm.

T-shirt - thrifted and I don't know if you can tell but there is awesome crochet detailing around the neckline and sleeves
Overall shorts thingies - thrifted
Shoes - thrifted

Ok, for those of you who just came for the cuteness portion, class dismissed. Time for a rant n' rave...

Hi, my name is Christine and I'm a guiltaholic. Seriously, I am a Good Person. I am honest, I am trustworthy, I will help you if you need it, etc! But I am plagued by guilt. Every day. Over nothing. I am watching CNN and things OTHER PEOPLE did are making me feel guilty. I had four beers while watching the Twins game last night = guilty today. I no longer have time to volunteer = guilt. I finally have a day off (well, except for my disabled client Daniel tonight) and I am blogging and fooling around instead of getting to my to-do list. Guilt. I don't know what it is... I just feel like I ought to be doing more. better. And I know, I do, that I am only 27. And have a fabulous job that is helping kids live and learn better. And I have owned my condo for four years. That I have two degrees. That I improved the lives of disabled teens and their families for years. That I have volunteered in impoverished countries. That I am an upstanding young adult (and not a drug addict, or a racist, or a thief, or an alcoholic, or a violent person, etc). Still, guilt guilt.

Whew, I am hoping that writing that out helps me feel better... I'm in no way a perfectionist, far from it. I'm pretty meh - good enough... it might be a genetic thing... my mom is a total worrier and my sister has been on anxiety medication for years... sometimes I think (and this is going to sound really pretentious) that I'm too smart for my own good. I read too many books. Know too much about what is going on in the world. Seen too many things working in 3rd world countries. Know I need to live my life to it's fullest potential because of all the people I know who don't have a working body. or mind. or the ability to put those things to work. Don't worry about me, I'm fine. I will persevere and continue running around looking for cute little things, I just needed to get a little bit of that out.

Thanks dudes.

Baseball, baseball, and oh yeah, baseball

Had myself a fabulous holiday weekend! Friday I waitressed then went immediately to the Metrodome to watch the Twins game... which lasted 16 innings and over FIVE hours! And they lost!

Friday:

Necklace - thrifted
T-shirt - Target
Skirt - thrifted (shortened by me, then i added the two rose doilies too!)
Shoes - thrifted Nine West

Saturday was the boy's 28th birthday... lots of baseball. Lots of grilling. Lots of beer. I'm pretty proud I wore this white dress all day and did not get ketchup on it!

Necklace - thrifted
Dress - thrifted at Fake Target (it's an Isaac Mizrahi for Target sample dress)
Shoes - Nicole (inherited from my friend Megan)

Spent Sunday watching more baseball, playing a baseball game and playing two home-run derbys. So excellent. Have the day off today... doing really exciting things like renewing my driver's license, steam cleaning my upstairs carpet, and finally going to Target (seriously empty fridge problems). How was your weekend?

I Glove MJ, Blanche, and possibly inappropriate use of leggings

Well, looks like this only posting once a week thing may be a permanent thing until school starts again, which I am fine with. It's a good thing when you're too busy living your life to stop and write about it, right?

Thursday...
They announced the death of Michael Jackson on the radio on my way home from work. When I got home I put on my old "I glove MJ" shirt... the glove is sparkly and amazing... I haven't worn this shirt in like 5 years!

Shirt - Alex Aranovich for 2k shirts
Skirt - thrifted
Shoes - Charles David
Regardless of his personal life, he will always have a special place in my heart. I grew up listening to him (on RECORDS no less), torturing my sister with the opening laugh and creaking doors on Thriller, dancing and trying to learn to moonwalk, and crying every time I saw the Man in the Mirror video... plus I've heard Billy Jean while waitressing weddings, every Saturday for the last ten years of my life. That's a lot of Billy Jean. And you know what? Still like it. Still move a little quicker around the dining room busing glasses when it's on.

Tuesday...

The boy told me I looked like Blanche from The Golden Girls in this... a bit true.
White necklace - thrifted
Shirt - thrifted
Skirt - thrifted
Sandals - thrifted

Today...

Hrm... pushing my personal boundaries on what is an acceptable top to wear with leggings... this one is pretty short, but oh well!

Matchstick belt (worn as necklace) - from a Free People dress
Tunic - thrifted
Leggings - I Heart Ronson
Sandals - London Underground

I have TWO days off next week, so you may get a post on Monday AND Thursday. Otherwise, I'm excited for the weekend. The boy's 28th birthday is on the 4th of July! Not sure what we're doing yet but I'll bet it involves a combination of sailing, grilling, and playing baseball in the park. And beers. Lots of beers.

Maybe a midnight dance party or two... (this was Friday night)

And maybe some porch sitting for the finest people watching in town... (this was Saturday night, after I finally finished bartending around 1am)

Have a great holiday weekend, Americans!

dayglo and breaking the rules

Hey kiddos! Still alive, still crazy busy, still having too much fun!

So yesterday I dressed like a highlighter... I'm trying to decide whether I should keep this 60s dayglo nightie or not, so I wore it over to the boy's house for a porch cocktail and some late night people watching. I got quite a few stares when I went next door to the gas station... I think I'll hold on to it for now, I've never seen another one like it and I go thrifting a LOT.

Dayglo nightie - thrifted
Leggings - I Heart Ronson
Shoes - Pierre Hardy for GAP

Today

Ryan (boyfriend) - Your outfit doesn't make sense.
Me - Only when you know the rules, can you break the rules.
Ryan - What are the rules?
Me - Do you REALLY want me to start talking about the rules?
Ryan - No, Carrie Bradshaw.
Me - (devil stare)

Shirt - JC Penny super clearance (yeah, I got distracted buying new work bras the other day...)
Skirt - thrifted
Shoes - thrifted Nine West

Whoo! Newly fixed vintage shoes, fresh from the cobbler with new heels!

I got new taps for two other pairs of heels, but these were the tough ones for them and they turned out fabulous! $3 thrifted 1970s Nine West shoes, $29 in repairs... hmm... still totally worth it!

That is all for today kids, 7 hours on my feet at work, ran 5 miles, now I'm off to make dinner with the boy and watch the Twins games... ahhhh

what I wore all weekend

Last Wednesday... oopsy doops...

Spent most of the day in and out of etsy stuff for the shop, but here is what I wore to have a cocktail with a friend in town from Boston...

Ruffled shirt - thrifted and pinned with a brooch in the back
Grey tank - little boys Fruit of the Loom
Green tank - Target
Skirt - thrifted Ann Taylor LOFT - all the white parts are embroidery, I'll shoot a close up later, it's so pretty!
Shoes - Chinese Laundry

Thursday I was out driving around the beverage cart all day and forgot to put on sunscreen until I was already out there two hours, and thus I am rocking a fine "farmer burn" in this pic. I wore this after work, hanging out with my disabled client and then to a local hip-hop show to see a friend in town from Boston. I also wore it for a few hours after work on Saturday night...

Necklaces - thrifted
Vest - thrifted in the little boys costume section around halloween
Dress - thrifted Nine West
Shoes - thrifted vintage Candies

Have more to post tomorrow, since I finally have a whole day off! I'm super busy so far this summer, but rolling in dough and stress-free... I'm hoping to work a little less in the upcoming weeks but I doubt that will happen. Oh well, still having a ball!

Ketchup

What I wore to the wine party on Friday

Cardigan - J. Crew like 10 years ago
Polo - Target
Shoes - Unisa
Skirt - made from a pair of men's underwear I got at a garage sale for $0.25

What? Oh yes, I found some awesome vintage boxers at a garage sale and bought them from a rather embarrassed looking chubby old man... I couldn't help myself. I loved the patterns, knew that after a good soaking they'd be fine to wear, and the waistbands were so cool! So after removing the butt panel from the back, I just sewed up the back and the fly, removed the legs/crotch region and boom - cutest, cheapest, easiest little skirts ever.

A close up of the one from the above outfit (isn't the waist detail the cutest thing ever?)

The one I fixed up today (my total fave)...

Lookie that cool crest pattern!

The one pair I haven't finished yet...

I will try to post again soon, but it's another crazy working 50 hours week and my friend Megan is in town from Boston, so no promises. In the meantime, I will be wearing a lot of my uniform, a lot of swim suits, and a few old lady slips/nightgowns over them.

In fact this slip/nightgown thing is from the same garage sale as the boxers... hmm, is it suspicious that I was buying all their unmentionables??

Dress - $0.25 at a garage sale, I had to suck a few sizes out of it and it's still too big but I like it and it's semi-sheerness so you can see my swim suit under it
Swim suit - top Victoria's Secret, bottom Target
Shoes - thrifted vintage

And just to prove I'm not in the business of buying old people's underwear exclusively, I also bought two dresses, two pairs of shoes, some vintage hankies and this bag for $1 each!

I'm being killed with FUN (erm, and work)

Just a short one to prove to you I'm alive... had a fabulous weekend...
Thursday - bartending, picked up my client, then Jeanette's birthday
Friday - waitress then running then a wine party
Saturday - I slept in and had a leisurely lunch outside before waitressing a wedding until midnight
Sunday - I had a BBQ and pool party at my house in the morning followed by all of us heading to the park for an awesome baseball game (even though my team lost... boo) followed by pizza and a movie
Monday - drove the bev cart for 6 hours, (made lots of money -yay, got a farmer tan - boo), then ran 5 miles, then made taco salad with the boy
Today - waitress 8 hours, then hopefully just sit and sew and finally have some time to myself.

Don't get me wrong, this has been such a FUN week, but just so hectic... plus my friend Megan is coming in from Boston tomorrow, so I don't think this week will be any less crazy/fun... I have a few pictures for you that I'll post tomorrow, in the meantime just to prove I am a alive, here are some pictures from Jeanette's birthday that I stole off her flickr!
